Crochet FAN LACE BORDER PATTERN

Here is a clear, step-by-step crochet pattern for the lace .
This border is made of repeat fan motifs connected side-by-side.

It uses very simple stitches: sc, dc, ch.

🌼 FAN LACE BORDER PATTERN

Thread: Size 0–1 cotton
Hook: 1.25–1.5 mm

Each motif is worked from the center outward, then joined to the previous motif.

MOTIF 1 — FIRST FAN

Round 1 — Center

  • Ch 6
  • Join to form a ring
  • Ch 3 (counts as dc)
  • Make 15 dc into the ring (total 16 dc)
  • Join.

Round 2 — Start Fan Expansion

  • Ch 3
  • Dc in same stitch
  • 2 dc in each stitch around
→ You now have 32 dc.

Do NOT join.
Turn after this round.
This keeps the fan flat.

Row 3 — Begin Open Mesh

  • Ch 4 (dc + ch1)
  • Skip 1 stitch
  • (dc, ch1, skip 1) repeat across
→ Finish row with dc in last stitch.
    Turn.

Row 4 — Expand Mesh

  • Ch 4
  • (dc in next dc, ch2) repeat across
    → dc in last dc
    Turn.

Row 5 — More Mesh Increase

Same as Row 4 but with ch3 between dc.

Row 6 — Last Mesh Row

Same as before, but ch4 between dc.

You should now see the large semicircle shape like in the photo.

Row 7 — Scallop Edging

In each mesh space:

  • (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc)

Repeat across to form the tiny shell border.

Fasten off.

🌼 ADDING THE NEXT MOTIF

For each new motif:

Work Rounds 1–2 normally.

When you reach Row 3, join to previous motif:

Join Method

When making the ch-1 space:

  • Replace ch-1 with sl st into matching space of previous motif
  • Continue the row

Do this joining in:

  • Row 3
  • Row 4
